Faith

We generally consider requests for the following:

• Building projects that enhance or expand the work of an organization.  Funding requests for deferred building maintenance will not be considered.
• New or expanded programmatic initiatives that require seed money for success.  Multi-year (but not perpetual) support may be considered for items such as the hiring of new staff, staff training, and the purchase of equipment and materials. 
• Student scholarships, particularly for students attending religiously affiliated K–12 schools or institutions of higher education, including seminaries.
• By invitation, the Funds may also consider grant requests from regional and national organizations that research and educate about issues of faith and civil society.

While we may occasionally make grants that support the general operations of organizations with which we have an existing relationship, we do not accept grant requests for general operations.

Nonprofit organizations are invited to submit grant requests that align with the geographic and programmatic goals of the Funds.  Requests may be submitted at any time and in any format, but must include the requesting organization's most recent annual financial statements and, if applicable, a budget for the specific project.  Requests should be submitted in pdf format to jheller@hellercharitablefunds.org.

Grant requests are welcome in amounts up to $100,000, although the majority of awarded grants are between $5,000 and $10,000.

Most grants will be made through a donor-advised fund and are subject to the approval of the donor-advised fund sponsor.

Grant recipients must be 501(c)(3) charitable organizations or local government entities.

Donors have a strong preference for organizations that receive little or no federal government funding. State and local government funding does not receive the same level of scrutiny and, in some cases, may be viewed favorably.
